Jesus Christ died as a substitute for sinners, bearing the penalty they deserved for their sins. From a biblical and Reformed perspective, it means:
Sin deserves punishment because it violates God's holy law. God's justice demands that sin be judged (Romans 6:23).
Jesus took the place of sinners, bearing their guilt and punishment on the cross (Isaiah 53:5; 1 Peter 2:24).
On the cross, Jesus endured God’s wrath so that those who trust in Him would be forgiven, counted righteous, and reconciled to God (2 Corinthians 5:21; Romans 5:8–9). His death satisfied God's justice and secured salvation for His people.
